“Iron rusts from disuse, stagnant water loses its purity, and in cold weather becomes frozen: even so does inaction sap the vigors of the mind.” – Leonardo da Vinci
The above quote from Signore da Vinci resonates with me when I read it.
In the martial arts I often meet people that make the statement, “I’m a black belt.”
I ask them what their background is, how long they’ve been training etc. That’s when they usually hit me with this one: “Oh, I haven’t trained in years.”
“Huh? Excuse me? I thought you just told me you were a black belt?” says I.
I could go on with the drunk-a-logue that ensues, but I won’t. Suffice to say that just because you meet the standards once, doesn’t mean you are always that level.
Why? Because skills are perishable – and I am referring here to both mental and physical skills/abilities. What you do not use, you will lose – PERIOD.
You have an immense power within you to envision your future as you desire it and then create the circumstances that allow you to attract it into your life. Anything, and I do mean anything, you want. There are no limits on what you can do except those which you set on yourself.
The challenge that so many people run into is that they never use what they have. For whatever reason; no support, they’re lazy, the economy, lack of proper education, no drive, poor focus, the wrong friends, wrong place/wrong time, bad birth right – whatever.
Understand this, the above are just excuses not to get your skills/talents in the game.
There is one solution that can affect you right now – DO SOMETHING, DO ANYTHING! BUT DO IT NOW!
The sooner you begin to exercise what you have, no matter how awful you think it may be, the sooner you’ll get better at it. You’ll knock off the rust, shake out the cobwebs, de-ice your wings and fly!
During this week, take a look at what you’re good at, then do that. Then do that again. Get good at what you’re good at.
When I get to the end of my life, I want to know that I did as much as possible with what I was given. I invite you to do the same.
The Best is yet to come!
